Because we want to protect our children’s future

Information on quality assurance for JAKO-O products

When choosing products and suppliers, we always look for a balance between long lifespan, optimum function, a fair price and responsibility for our children's health.

Our products come from long-trusted partners. This is the only way that we can offer quality and innovation in the long term.

JAKO-O divides products into 3 groups:

Products that are made exclusively for us:

For these products, we know the suppliers, visit them, request certificates and carry out a strict acceptance check. We involve a laboratory to check whether legal, as well as our own, safety criteria are being maintained (toy safety directive 88/378/EEC, European standard for toy safety EN 71, phthalate directive 2058/84/EEC, order forbidding chemicals, law on consumer goods etc.).

Finished products that we buy from companies we know:

We request certificates (declarations of conformity, where the companies declare that they maintain legal directives, TÜV evaluation/GS certification etc.) and have regular, random harmful substances reports issued by well-known Germany institutes (TÜV Rheinland, LGA Nürnberg, Institut Hohenstein, Textilfachschule Nagold and all accredited testing institutes).

The majority of our textiles products are made from cotton or cotton mixes. We use high quality fabrics to provide better protection for children’s sensitive skin.
We have an Öko-Tex Standard 100 for the end product for nearly all of our items. A great many of our products have also fulfilled product class 1 for baby products. We request harmful substances reports for items that do not have this certification. The contents may not exceed the limit values of the Öko-Tex-Standard.

The "Öko-Tex Standard 100" label guarantees that products marked with this label do not contain quantities of harmful substances that are damaging to health. The Öko-Tex Standard 100 regulates which harmful substances are excluded or rather defines limit values and has established test criteria for a total of 100 individual substances or the foundations of harmful substances, including for:

  • Banned amines of special AZO dyes
  • Formaldehyde
  • Pesticides
  • Carcinogenic and allergenic dyes
  • Heavy metals
  • Colour fastness
  • pH value
  • Organic tin compounds
  • Odour

A product can only be certified and display the Öko-Tex label when all of the materials used (fabric, buttons, sewing thread etc.) are within these limit values. The closer the contact to skin, the stricter the limit values. Limit values for clothes for babies and small children have priority, followed by items where a large proportion of the surface comes into direct contact with the skin and then items that have less contact with the skin.
There are four classes in total. For our clothes that are labelled with Öko-Tex Standard 100, we make sure that the boundary values of class 1 or 2 are maintained.
The majority of shirts and sweatshirts come from Lithuania, Latvia, the Ukraine and Poland, via Denmark. Portugal and Turkey also supply lots of basics. Jeans and dresses also come from Turkey. Shoes and heavy garments (jackets, ski suits and outdoor clothing) come from China.

Goods acceptances checks are carried out by trained staff. Our quality management reports directly to management. This guarantees independent testing systems for our customers’ safety.

All of our suppliers sign an agreement on social standards. This agreement regulates the following:
Ban on child labour, admission of unions, job security, working hours, fair pay, no discrimination against employees on the grounds of gender, race etc. Most of our toy and game suppliers are also audited according to ICTI. That’s a toy industry standard that concerns these social standards. Our buyers regularly visit the suppliers and their production sites.

With a functioning environmental management system, we meet the requirement of the environmental standard DIN EN ISO 14001. We operate modern energy management in our company, for all energy forms and also for all buildings under ecological aspects. Examples of this are using photovoltaic systems on the roofs to generate electricity or heating using earth heat exchangers.

Our company is marked according to the quality standard DIN EN ISO 9001, which means that we strive for:

  • Effective customer service,
  • Consistently high product quality,
  • Fulfilment of all applicable safety standards,
  • Optimisation of work processes and
  • Environmental responsibility.

    • ... Because we want to protect our children’s future!

There is still a lot to be done. We are always working on keeping the quality of our products at the highest possible level and improving a little every time. We never stop - for us, this entails a continual further development and improvement process that we take very seriously.

Jako-o GmbH Clever stuff for kids!
