In recent years, we have primarily made donations to the José Carreras International Leukaemia Foundation and various projects for the “United for Africa” campaign. Making it possible for children in Africa
to go to school and therefore giving them a better chance in a self-determined life is a cause particularly close to our hearts.

German and African children - Stories from child to child
The children from the AMPO orphanage in Burkina Faso have written funny and exciting stories for us that can be read in our “Children’s Stories” book, together with stories from German boys and girls. For every book sold we will donate 50 Cents to the AMPO orphanage. The orphanage is managed by Katrin Rohde, from Germany, who helps abandoned and orphaned children in Burkina Faso.
From autumn 2008, JAKO-O will provide financial support to send around 600 children in Burkina Faso to school for three years and will put 20,000 Euros into a fund for future students. That’s how we’re keeping our “Christmas promise” from 2007 - for every order that we received in the pre-Christmas period, an African child should be able to go to school for a week.

Recipes for help
When we cook for our children, it always annoys us that lots of “children's recipes” use foods that aren't readily available in normal households. We thought that there should be a recipe book full of quick meals for normal mums to make.
That’s how we came up with the idea of asking our customers what their favourite recipes were. We put together this wonderful recipe book, followed by a baking recipe book and even a little Christmas baking recipe book from all the wonderful ideas. And because our customers provided us with the content, we wanted to pass on the gesture and make a donation to “United for Africa” (a fusion of 30 experienced aid organisations) for every copy sold. By June 2008 we had donated 27,000 Euros to the initiative.
In recent years, JAKO-O has donated €177,000 to the Carreras Foundation.
“We must find a cure for leukaemia"
In recent years, JAKO-O has donated nearly €177,000 to the José Carreras International Leukaemia Foundation. Many JAKO-O customers have contributed to this remarkable sum by buying reflective collars for their children. The Foundation received 50 Cents for each one sold.
“Finding a cure for leukaemia, forever and for everyone” is how José Carreras describes the aim of the organisation. Leukaemia often occurs in the first 40 years of a person’s life. While twenty years ago the illness was almost always deadly, on average three in four children can be cured today.
