It's a voluntary safety mark for ready-to-use objects such as furniture, toys, play areas, fitness equipment or children’s cars etc. It certifies that the product meets all essential health and safety requirements, some of which are even stricter than European toy directives. Quality is checked regularly in random samples during routine production. The test must be redone after 5 years.
... is obligatory for toys that are sold in the EU. It is the manufacturer or distributor’s responsibility to declare that a product corresponds to the European toy safety standard EN 71. So the CE sign is a label, not a certification mark.
Toys and games are tested for resilience, flammability, pollutant content and cleanability, as well as other criteria, in accordance with EC directive safety regulations or American ASTM regulations.
The Arbeitsausschuss Kinderspiel + Spielzeug e. V. (German Working Group on Children's Play and Toys) of the spiel gut (play well) association, whose head office is in Ulm, tests and evaluates toys. It also provides information about the importance of play for children’s physical, mental and social development. The working group is made up of around 40 experts from education, psychology, sociology, medicine, design, technology, environmental protection and other professions. They work on selecting and recommending good toys and games in regular jury meetings. The individual toys and games are tested with children and evaluated and marked in accordance with strict criteria. The “spiel gut” sign is the only design certification that is orientated towards children’s education.
This label identifies leather products that have been tested to find out whether they fall within limit values for formaldehyde, pentachlorophenol (PCP) and other chlorophenols, pesticides, heavy metals and banned dyes, but also sweat-, wear-, water- and saliva proofness and even odour.
This label puts the seal on the safety of textile products, i.e. clothes and fabric toys. The independent Öko-Tex-Gemeinschaft institute tests whether limit values are maintained for banned or legally regulated substances such as carcinogenic or allergenic dyes, formaldehyde, softeners, heavy metals and pentachlorophenol, pesticides, herbicides and organic tin compounds. A total of around 100 individual substances or components of harmful substances are tested. The Institute also looks out for colour-fastness and skin-friendly pH values. The yardstick is always human safety and the following rule applies - The closer the contact to skin and the younger the person, the stricter the limit values.

This label identifies textile products that have a minimum impact on the environment, in all phases of their “life cycle”, from production of raw materials to disposal. Aspects taken into consideration here are energy consumption, water and air pollution and avoidance of waste. Products are also not allowed to contain any dyes that contain heavy metals or that release carcinogenic animes, carcinogenic fire retardants or pentachlorophenol and they must meet the limit values for formaldehyde.
The Blue Angel has been awarded since 1978 as a seal of approval for particularly environmentally-friendly products and services. It aims to point to environmentally friendly developments and alternatives in cases where conventional products are harmful to the environment. It is also supposed to make things clearer for consumers, trade and manufacturers. The environmental mark is awarded to manufacturers and they can use it to voluntarily identify their products.
Feel-good clothing and an important contribution to environmental protection: Organic cotton is cultivated without using pesticides, hand-picked and processed further without using chemical or upgrading agents, in a way that preserves energy and resources. By its very nature, organic cotton is kind to skin, soft, stretchy and very breathable, as well as being temperature and moisture regulating. It is also hard-wearing, non-tearing and easy to look after, making it the first choice in making clothes that are suitable for children.
... is the internationally established, uniform label for ecological textiles. A product must be made from at least 90% natural fibres to bear the GOTS label. Only 10% may be synthetic fibres. Regardless of this, at least 70% of the fibres have to come from plants or animals that have been cultivated or reared organically. Only substances that pose no risk to health or the environment can be used to dye or print the fabrics and they must have been certified by the certifying authorities. All end products must adhere to residue limit values with regard to a comprehensive list of materials that are harmful to health and the environment. GOTS is a global, easily recognised quality mark, you can immediately see whether imported goods are real natural textiles.
... identifies clothing and materials for shading with functional UV protection that filter out the harmful part of natural UV radiation. The award is given in degrees of sun protection factor from 2 to 80. It states by how much more the clothing protects the skin against direct sunlight so that no reddening occurs. The UV Standard 801 is based on health criteria that extend beyond legal guidelines and that take into consideration the sun protection factor of the end product in its new and used state.
This certificate is awarded to mattresses, bed linen and furniture that is made from a high proportion of sustainable raw materials (e.g. wood, bamboo, natural rubber, coconut or kapok etc.) and that demonstrate a good energy balance during manufacture.
This mark means that a product not only corresponds to European toy directive EN 71, but also that it has been tested for harmful substances.
Manufacturers use this certificate to document that their product meets the minimum legal requirements (e.g. decrees covering harmful substances and banning chemicals) and more extensive LGA test requirements concerning pollutant content. Manufacturing sites and products are monitored annually, after passing basic and suitability tests.
REACH stands for Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of Chemical substances. It is an EU chemicals regulation that has controlled the trade in chemical substances within the EU since June 1, 2007. Every manufacturer or importer (including JAKO-O) that wants to bring materials into circulation that fall within the scope of REACH must have a unique registration number for these materials.
