Why a children's zoo?

Since 2002, JAKO-O is a children's zoo sponsor of the Nuremberg Zoological Garden, because zoos are a wonderful way for children to learn more and to encounter new things. Our children's zoo is thus adorned with signs of the "little ones" at eye height. They explain appropriately for children with many pictures, where the animals come from, what they eat, how they live, etc. This way, people don't just walk through the zoo, but are invited to ask questions and to be active. The children are familiarised with the care of and responsibility for animals. There is no better preparation for the own pet!

So, what is different?

  • Why is the sheep a useful animal for people?
  • What is made out of wool, eggs or milk?
  • Are donkeys really stubborn?
  • And why are pigs said to be dirty?

These and many other questions are asked by any child sooner or later. Our signs provide answers for them in a simple language with funny, colourful pictures.

In addition, many of the animals can be petted and observed from a very close proximity. And while grooming horses, milking goats, shearing sheep … children are familiarised with the care of and responsibility for animals.

Therefore, the JAKO-O motto is:

Seeing Animals - Learning - and Caring …
Active Experiencing at the Children's Zoo!

New playground to "hang out" in between

And for all, who need a "romping break": JAKO-O has built a new playground - with wide slide, family swing and a 12 meter high giant jungle gym. Here, children can climb, balance and test their skills. In summer, high trees are providing cooling shade. This way, new energy can be gathered, before moving on to the children's zoo.

We even have a train with locomotive! It is a smaller replica of the very first train in Germany, the "Eagle", and it takes the "impatient ones" directly from the entrance to the zoological garden to the children's zoo. If desired, the train can also be entered here.

In short:
At the JAKO-O children's zoo, the entire family has fun! Maybe an option for the next family (weekend) outing …?

We are looking forward to seeing you!

JAKO-O and the Nuremberg Zoological Garden

The JAKO-O Children's Adventure Camp

Soon, a dream of many children may come true, they could spend the night in immediate vicinity to lions and elephants! JAKO-O supports the Nuremberg Zoological Garden with the development of a new tent camp. Laying in the tent at night, hearing the animals making noises. This experience for children is part of the new animal-pedagogic concept of the zoological garden. A 3,000 square metre compound - in the middle of the zoo - becomes a meeting place for human and animal.

Registration: is possible as of beginning of March 2014 at the Nuremberg Zoological Garden under

Easier on the Way - JAKO-O Handcart

56 zoos in Germany have JAKO-O handcarts. We, the JAKO-O parents know from our own experience that such a wagon makes a lot of things easier and saves some tears here and there … In total, we have currently made available 1,500 of our handcarts as family service at zoological gardens all over Germany. You can get further information on site.
