Environmentally aware!

We have borrowed the earth from our children. So we strive to protect the environment in each and every step of our work – and we intend to do even better! We train our employees to strengthen their environmental awareness. When selecting products and our suppliers we look for a balance between durability, optimum function and a fair price, as well as responsibility towards the health of our children. Our products come from long-time partners, who we trust and who we know also work to high environmental standards. When we ship our articles, we use packaging materials that are as eco-friendly and recyclable as possible – and only as much of these as necessary. The conservation of resources and reduction of pollutant emissions are firmly anchored in our environmental policy.

Our in-house Quality Assurance department for “fashion”

Trust is good, control is better: even though we only work with selected, trustworthy suppliers, each item of clothing is carefully tested by our in-house Quality Assurance department before entering our product range. Even the initial design process for a new item of clothing is accompanied by Quality Assurance, right up to when samples are ready for production. Certificates are obtained and processing guidelines issued. When we receive the samples (in three sizes!) from our suppliers, we inspect them carefully: Are the dimensions correct? Does the button fit through the hole and does a diaper bottom fit in the bodysuit? We wash and dry the products over and over again so that we can provide reliable care symbols and washing tips. To monitor production by our suppliers in Europe, the Baltic States, Turkey and China, two technicians are on the road for eight months of the year to satisfy themselves that products are manufactured correctly and that our working and environmental standards are met. In Bad Rodach our Quality Assurance staff also carry out extensive intermediate checks. This means that the process from design to a finished collection takes a good six months. So much quality has its price – but keeps its promise for many years to come!

Our in-house Quality Assurance department for our “own hardware products”

Much of our hardware is actually soft and cuddly. Whether it’s the dolls Krümel and Krümelchen, the cute functional cuddly animals, the JAKO-O friends, or really “tough guys” like our trolley or the popular melamine dishes: there’s an entire department dedicated to monitoring and testing our own products, from the first sketch to final acceptance. We select materials, meticulously check their quality and safety, and obtain certificates. Using several samples created by our long-standing, trusted suppliers, we repeatedly inspect the appearance and quality of our own products in the development phase. Among other things, we use an X-ray fluorescence device to check the heavy metal content. In addition, our own products undergo a rigorous incoming goods test in accordance with AQL 2.5 (DIN ISO 2859).
Thanks to this strict quality testing process, we guarantee that our products comply with the European Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC, the German Product Safety Act (Produktsicherheitsgesetz) and the German Food and Feed Code (Lebensmittel- und Futtermittelgesetzbuch) for all products that come into contact with food.

Collaboration with independent testing laboratories

A variety of neutral accredited testing institutes (e.g. TÜV Rheinland, SLG, OMPG) test our products independently of our in-house quality assurance process. Tests are performed in accordance with the following guidelines, standards and laws, among others:
EN 71 European standard on the safety of toys
REACH regulation 1907/2006 (including phthalates, PAHs and azo dyes)
This continuous monitoring of materials by an independent testing laboratory in accordance with the current requirements guarantees high-quality products and sustainable disposal of packaging or articles that are no longer needed – and of course, the very highest level of safety for our children.

The “Öko-Tex Standard 100” label guarantees that no critical amounts of harmful substances are contained in products awarded this label. The Öko-Tex Standard 100 regulates which harmful substances are excluded or defines limits, and has laid down testing criteria for a total of 100 individual substances or components of harmful substances, e.g. for banned amines of special azo dyes, formaldehyde, pesticides, carcinogenic and allergenic dyes, heavy metals, color fastness, pH value, organostannic compounds and odor. Only if all the materials used (fabric, buttons, sewing thread, etc.) in a product comply with the limits is the product certified and awarded the Öko-Tex label. The closer the contact with the skin, the stricter the limits are. There are four categories altogether. The limits for items of clothing for babies and small children take top priority. For our clothing labelled with Öko-Tex Standard 100, we ensure that the limits of categories 1 or 2 are observed.

Textiles marked with the “bluesign” logo guarantee that, in the entire production chain, only components and procedures that are safe for human health AND as environmentally friendly as possible are used. The components and procedures that meet the criteria are set out for the whole production process. This ensures efficient and maximum implementation in terms of resource productivity, the environment, health and safety. The use of hazardous substances is ruled out BEFORE production begins.

Our environmental management system

Our environmental management system complies with the requirements of environmental standard DIN EN ISO 14001. From an ecological point of view we operate a modern energy management system for all buildings and forms of energy. Examples of this include photovoltaic systems on the roofs to generate power, or geothermal heat exchangers for heating.
Our company is certified to quality standard DIN EN ISO 9001, which means that we strive to offer an effective customer service and consistently high product quality, to meet all applicable safety standards, to optimize our operations and to act in an environmentally aware manner.
